Jane Kohl

After 44 years  as the owner and instructor of Jane Kohl School of Dance (1977 to 2007)  and Kohl Academy of Performing Arts (2007 to present) Jane has transitioned out of the business.

In 1977 she started her business in her garage on Warrenton Shores later moving the studio to 1428 Gunter Avenue.  In 2007 she again moved her studio to a larger studio at 1910 Gunter   Avenue where it is still located.

One of her fondest memories is taking 63 of the dancers and their families from the studio to New York to perform in “The Nutcracker” on Broadway.

Many of the students from the early years children and grand children dance at the studio today.  Jane has been a inspiration to many to continue in the arts through her studio and The Whole Backstage Theater. Her contribution to the Arts in Marshall County is unsurpassed.

Jane is the founder of Kohl Academy of Performing Arts.  She began her early dance training in New Orleans ad earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech and Theatre from Louisiana State University (now the University of New Orleans). She received her certification to teach from the Dance Masters of America, an international organization of teachers certified by test, and is a graduate Dance Masters of America Teachers Training School.  She is an Executive Board Member of The Whole Backstage Community Theatre in Guntersville, Past President of Dance Masters of America Mid-South Chapter #41, and a Past Delegate to the Dance Masters National Board of Directors.  She is currently a member of Dance Masters of America, Chapter #33.  Jane is a Director/Choreographer for major productions at The Whole Backstage Community Theatre, such as 42nd Street and Irving Berlin's White Christmas.  Jane has received The Whole Backstage Lifetime Achievement Award for her contributions to the community theatre.
